How FPGAs Enable Heterogeneous Computing

Presented by Achronix Senior Director of Product Planning, Nick Ilyadis

FPGA & eFPGA for Compute Acceleration

Today there is a wide spectrum of computing models that address areas that have moved beyond the realm of programmatic CPU-based workloads. This area is called heterogeneous computing. It spans the realms of data centers to telco edge to embedded devices. The heterogeneous computing model encompasses CPUs, GPUs, and hardware accelerators. Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) provide a technology in which flexible hardware accelerators can be realized.

Achronix’s Senior Director of Product Planning, Nick Ilyadis, returned virtually to his alma mater, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), to present “FPGA and eFPGA for Compute Acceleration” to the students of Dr. Jayanti Venkataraman, MSEE Graduate Program Director in the Department of Electrical and Microelectronic Engineering, and Director of Electromagnetics, Microwave and Antenna Laboratory.

This presentation will cover the FPGA market and its history, and how FPGAs address the heterogeneous computing space. It will then introduce Achronix products and technology, which incorporate some of the industry’s most differentiated FPGA technology, implemented in the most advanced semiconductor process nodes. The presentation will also cover use cases in data centers, networking, wireless infrastructure, and automotive.

What you’ll learn:

  • The FPGA market and its history
  • How FPGAs address the heterogeneous computing space
  • Achronix technology
